Orthopaedic VET
Orthopaedic vet care to keep your pet moving.
What does an orthopaedic veterinarian do?
An orthopaedic vet is a pet care specialist who looks after the bones, joints, ligaments and movement of animals, like our animal orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Leo. He steps in when your dog or cat has trouble walking, has had an injury or lives with pain that affects how they move. Orthopaedic care often involves surgery, but also includes diagnosis, rehabilitation and making sure your pet is comfortable and safe during their recovery.
How Our Dog & Cat Orthopaedic Surgeon Can Help Your Pets
Stiffness, limping or trouble getting up can all take a toll on a pet’s wellbeing, just as it would our own. Our pet orthopaedic surgeon works with dogs and cats who need help with bone or joint conditions, which may include injuries, joint problems or issues like hip or elbow dysplasia. We help put a clear plan in place that focuses on your pet’s quality of life as part of our holistic vet treatment, not just the specific injury.
Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) Surgery
TTA is another option for pets with cruciate ligament injuries, although it’s normally just for dogs. The procedure aims to improve knee function by adjusting the angle of the joint, which can help reduce limping and discomfort. It may be recommended depending on your pet’s size, activity level and anatomy, but our orthopaedic vets will walk you through your options and guide you on the right option for your pooch.
Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) Surgery
TPLO surgery is often recommended for dogs with a torn cruciate ligament, but it can also be an option for cats in rare cases. It changes how the knee bears weight, so your pet can walk without constant strain or pain, which may be restricting their quality of life. For active dogs or cats who aren’t healing with rest alone, this surgery can help them feel more stable and comfortable again. It’s a big step, but it often gives pets a chance to move more freely and enjoy their normal routines again.
DeAngelis Surgery for Pets
Also known as lateral suture surgery, DeAngelis is typically used for smaller dogs or when TPLO or TTA isn’t really an option. It involves placing a strong synthetic suture outside the knee to help keep things stable as the body heals. The approach has been used for years and is often more affordable than other options, but your vet will guide you on what is right for your dog, and sometimes, cats.
Our Difference as a veterinary orthopaedic surgeon
Making It Easy to Find an Orthopaedic Vet ‘Near Me’ Who You Can Trust
It’s not always easy to know who to turn to when your pet is injured or needs surgery. At Plus One Vet, our orthopaedic vet team offers a complete vet care solution, where we can assess, diagnose, treat and perform surgery all from our clinic. It helps make it easier on both you and your pet, with our vets making sure you get clear communication in a friendly, calming environment. We’re here to help you and all of your family members feel supported every step of your pet’s orthopaedic journey.
Video & House Call Options
It’s not always possible for you to get to the vet. While surgery needs to take place in one of our local vet clinics, we may be able to provide some video and house calls, such as for follow-up appointments to check on your pet’s progress.
Multilingual Team
We speak multiple languages at our clinics, including English, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese, so more people can feel at ease when talking about their pet’s care. It helps build trust between you and our vet team so your pet can feel their best.
Pet-First, Affordable Care
As you may be able to tell, we love animals. So, we’ll always do what’s right for your pet before anything else. Our team talks openly about costs and outcomes so there’s no surprises, and our prices are fair and honest.
Education-Focused
Any advice or guidance we provide is always practice to help you feel confident in your pet’s care and recovery. We believe good care doesn’t stop at surgery, so we help you prepare for their return home and recovery journey too.
A Vet Orthopaedic Surgeon For All Animals
At Plus One Vet, our orthopaedic surgeons care for dogs and cats of all ages and sizes, also working with other animals, like rodents. Each case is different, and we take the time to get it right. If you’re unsure about your pet’s needs, we’re happy to talk through it with you.
Orthopaedic Surgery for Dogs
Many dogs deal with leg injuries, joint problems or arthritis that can affect how they move and their everyday comfort. Surgery may sound drastic or like a big step, but in many cases, it gives them the chance to move with ease and feel less pain. We focus on helping your dog get back to doing the things they love in a safe, supported way.
Orthopaedic Surgery for Cats
Cats often hide their pain, which can make joint or bone issues harder to spot. We take a gentle approach with feline patients, giving them the quiet, careful support they need. It helps that we also have all the diagnostic equipment in-house so you don’t need to take them to multiple spot to get them diagnosed. Surgery for cats can help improve their mobility and help them return to a more relaxed, playful life.
